AeroVironment Developing Farming Sector Using AI and Unmanned Aircraft Systems

AeroVironment wants to change the future of farming by using unmanned aircraft systems (UAS) and superior analytics. As a part of the 2019 Quantix & AV DSS University Collaboration Project, the company is working to realize that. The venture will deal with advance academic research, applications, and crop production practices.

More than 90 Quantix hybrid drone and AV DSS ecosystems have been granted to the agricultural departments of 35 universities together with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, Cornell University, North Dakota State University, University of Florida, University of Georgia, Purdue University, Ohio State University, and the University of Louisiana-Monroe.

The universities taking part will make use of AeroVironment’s Quantix hybrid drone and AV DSS data analytics platform in a variety of in-subject trials, application utilization research, and precision agriculture techniques analysis overlaying areas akin to crop nutrient and enter administration; AI for detecting weeds, pests, and illnesses; and improved accuracy of crop yield prediction. Featuring automated precision flight operation and a vertical takeoff and touchdown (VTOL) hybrid design, Quantix is purpose-built for crop scouting. It can survey as much as 400 acres in 45 minutes. On-board processing wirelessly transmits exact color and NDVI imagery to the included working pill as quickly as the drone lands.
