“Horns Rev 3” – European energy giant Vattenfall inaugurated Scandinavia’s largest offshore wind farm.
Horns Rev 3 and its 49 wind turbines signify Vattenfall’s and Denmark’s largest offshore wind farm, which is situated 25-40 kilometers off Denmark’s western coast within the North Sea.
Crown Prince of Denmark attended by Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and the Minister of Climate, Energy, and Utilities Dan Jørgensen formally inaugurated Denmark’s, Scandinavia’s and Vattenfall’s most considerable offshore wind farm.
“Horns Rev 3 is the largest offshore wind-generated project in Scandinavia and exhibits our dedication to Denmark’s ongoing recent changes to a renewable energy system. The wind farm is a major contribution to Vattenfall’s production portfolio and takes us one step additional in our ambition to enable a fossil-free living within one era”, says Magnus Hall, CEO of Vattenfall.
The fundamental principle for Horns Rev 3 was positioned within the seabed in October 2017, and the first turbines started delivering electricity to consumers on 23 December 2018. During the construction part, the generators had been shipped from the Port of Esbjerg however from 2024 they will be maintained from the Port of Hvide Sande, where Vattenfall will build a new service center.
In 2015, Vattenfall gained the right to assemble Horns Rev 3 with historically very bids and has then continued its effort to ship investments in renewables whereas maintaining profitability at very low costs.
In addition to Horns Rev 3, Vattenfall is developing other projects offshore wind farms Vesterhav Syd & Nord and Kriegers Flak, adding a total of greater than 1.4 GW wind energy capacity to the Danish energy system.
